Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 31, 2026 · Applies to the Learn French: TEF & TCF Android and iOS apps and this website

The short version

Learn French: TEF & TCF is built to work fully offline. There is no account, no sign-up, and no server run by us that your learning data is ever sent to. Your lesson progress, streaks, and vocabulary review history are stored only on your device. We do not sell, rent, or share your data, because we don't collect any to begin with.

1. Who we are

Learn French: TEF & TCF is developed and published as an independent app. If you have any question about this policy or the app, contact us at frenchly@frenchlyzoho.com.

2. Information we collect

We do not operate a backend server, and the app does not create a user account. The following is stored locally on your device only, using Android's standard app storage, and is never transmitted anywhere by us:

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage from Android Settings, permanently deletes all of this data. There is nothing to "delete" on our end because nothing is ever sent to us.

3. Permissions the app requests, and why

PermissionPurpose
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) Requested only when you open a speaking exercise. Your speech is passed to your device's own speech-recognition system to produce a transcript, which the app compares locally to the expected phrase. Learn French: TEF & TCF does not record, store, or transmit your voice to any server we control.
Internet (INTERNET) Used only to (a) load curated lesson videos embedded from YouTube, (b) open a video externally in your browser if the in-app embed fails, and (c) allow your device's text-to-speech / speech-recognition engine to function, which on some devices may involve the engine's own cloud service (see Section 4). The core lesson content, vocabulary, and exercises all work with no internet connection.

4. Third-party services

Learn French: TEF & TCF embeds a small number of third-party components to provide specific features. These components operate under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review:

No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs are integrated into Learn French: TEF & TCF. We don't use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK, or any similar tool. The only third-party data collection in the app is the advertising described below.

5. Advertising

Learn French: TEF & TCF shows ads served by Google AdMob (banner, interstitial, rewarded, rewarded interstitial, native, and app-open ad formats) to support offering the app for free. To do this, AdMob's SDK collects and processes, on your device and Google's servers:

On iOS, Learn French: TEF & TCF asks for App Tracking Transparency permission the first time you open the app; declining still shows ads, just less personalized to you. On both platforms you can opt out of personalized advertising in your device's OS settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking). Google's own privacy policy governs its processing of this data: policies.google.com/privacy, and Google publishes how AdMob handles data at support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543. Learn French: TEF & TCF itself does not sell your personal data.

6. Children's privacy

Learn French: TEF & TCF is a general-audience language-learning app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not operate any account system or server capable of receiving personal information from any user; the only data collection is the advertising described in Section 5, handled by Google under its own child-directed advertising controls. If you believe a child has used the app and been served ads in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will look into it.

7. Data security

Because no learning or usage data leaves your device, there is no transmission to secure. Data stored locally on your device is protected by your device's own operating-system security (screen lock, disk encryption, etc.), which we recommend you keep enabled.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) give you rights over personal data — access, correction, deletion, and portability. Since Learn French: TEF & TCF does not collect or store any personal data on servers we control, these rights are automatically satisfied: you already have full local control over the only data that exists (via the app's own reset/settings options, or by uninstalling the app). If you have questions about this, contact us at frenchly@frenchlyzoho.com.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves — most notably if advertising, analytics, or an account system is added in the future. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date, and where required, disclosed via the app's update notes on Google Play.

10. Contact us

Questions, concerns, or requests related to this policy can be sent to frenchly@frenchlyzoho.com.

This policy is written in plain language to be genuinely useful, not just legally defensive. If anything above is unclear, please tell us.
